Your case Marcus day 9
Marcus · tenured lead Elena · your director HR · wants it documented

Next hard moment

Thursday, 2:00pm · 1:1 with Elena

"Before we talk about Marcus, I want us aligned on the standard: reports on time, and if one slips, he flags it before the deadline. Is that how you see it?"

Sameed · Mon 11:20am

Reply on facts only, and keep Elena on it since he added her: "The data was in the shared folder Friday at 4:12pm. Let's talk today at 2." Then log it. Never argue tone over email.

Your record

  1. Oct 3 · Q3 report late, second time this month
  2. Oct 9 · Elena: "let's look at it on the 30th"
  3. Oct 10 · Standard sent to Elena in writing, no objection

Nearly 100

people talked a hard work situation through with me since September

1 day

for every reply, read and rewritten by a person

Sound familiar?

My boss promoted him. Now I'm the one who has to fix him.

HR keeps telling me to document it. Document what, and how?

Every time I give her feedback, it turns into a complaint about me.

I was promoted over the people I used to sit next to, and they know it.

I can't think out loud at work. Not to my boss, not to HR, not to my team.

Situations like these don't end in one conversation. They come back every week, and every move you make can end up on your record. That's what Manager Coach is for.

Someone outside the company who knows the whole story.

Your boss

Has a stake in how this goes, and may be part of the problem.

HR

Works for the company. Useful for process, not for your side of it.

A chatbot

Starts over every time. Doesn't remember last Tuesday, or who said what.

Manager Coach

On your side, outside your company. Keeps the whole history and answers within a day.

How it works

Ten minutes to start. Then write whenever it moves.

1

Tell me what's going on

Who's involved, what's happened so far, and what's coming up next. Made-up names are fine.

2

Get your first read within a day

What's really going on, the one move to make before the next hard conversation, and the words to open it with.

3

Write whenever it moves

After the meeting, the email, the surprise. Every reply builds on everything before it, and your dated record grows as you go.

From real cases

No client logos. Here's the work instead.

Privacy is the point, so nobody is named here. These are real situations and my actual replies, with the details changed so no one could recognize them.

Went over the manager's head

A report came back from a long absence, kept falling behind, then took a complaint about workload straight to the manager's boss.

"That's not betrayal, it's an opening. Your boss already has context from your flags, so you look like the manager who saw it coming."

What happened

The boss backed the manager. Six weeks in, the report resigned on good terms, and a backfill was approved.

The boss made the exception

Newly promoted. Their own boss had quietly made exceptions for one report, then wouldn't own them when policy changed.

"Don't guess what she thinks. Make her say it, framed as policy, not a complaint. Either way it's on record and off your shoulders."

The move

One question in the next 1:1, then silence: "What do you want me to tell him, and by when?"

Nothing in writing, ever

The people at the top refuse to write down what anyone's role is, so nobody can be held to anything and the manager absorbs the fallout.

"You don't need their permission to write down what the role requires. Draft it as your own operating doc, and use it as the backbone for every conversation."

The move

A one-page standard the manager owns, so every hard conversation points at the page, not at the person.

What you get

Not advice in general. Help with your situation, from someone who has read all of it.

The exact words

Openers, replies to their emails, and what to say when they push back.

Prep before every hard moment

What to say, how they're likely to respond, and what not to say.

A dated record

Facts, dates and what was said, written to hold up if HR or your boss asks.

Complete privacy

No company names needed. Nothing goes to your employer.

Who you're talking to

I'm Sameed. I spend my days getting people to move without formal authority, and I write for managers on Reddit, where my posts have been viewed more than 1.2 million times.

Manager Coach is that, kept going privately for your situation.

How replies work. A tool I built drafts the first pass. I read your message and rewrite every reply myself before it reaches you. You're never handed off to a bot.

I take on a small number of managers at a time, so every case gets real attention.

Questions

Who reads what I write?

Only me. The drafting tool processes messages under terms that don't allow it to train on them. You never need to name your company, and nothing goes to your employer.

How fast are replies?

Within a day. If a conversation is happening sooner, tell me when it is and I'll aim to reply before it.

What does founding member mean?

You're one of the first. You keep $149 a month for as long as you stay, even after the price goes up for new members.

Why in writing, not calls?

You can write in a minute between meetings and read the reply when it suits you. And you end up with a record of what happened and what you said, which a call never gives you.

Is this legal or HR advice?

No. It's practical help with what to do and say at work. If something needs a lawyer or a formal HR process, I'll tell you plainly.

Can my company pay for it?

Yes, if you'd like it to. Receipts say Manager Coach and work for most expense systems. If you'd rather nobody knows, pay for it yourself.

What happens when my situation is over?

Cancel with one email. Or keep it for the next one, and your history stays with you.

The next hard conversation is already on the calendar.

Start today and you'll have your first read before it.
